About Barbara Woodall

Barbara is a down-to-earth seventh generation Appalachian who tells it like it is. There is a message in her book, a message she expresses in the statement, “The mountains I once knew are not the same. Inevitable changes both to the landscape and its inhabitants clash dramatically with cherished memories of a passing era.”

As speaker, Barbara’s deep sense of humor transcends the underlying drama of her message. She speaks with the sincerity of one who totally believes in her appeal to the audience to take note of the drastic changes being brought to the landscape of the Appalachians. “…. BBarbara Woodallarbara Taylor Woodall was born and raised in the Appalachian Mountains of North Georgia. She graduated from Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School in 1973 and was active in the Foxfire programs.

Foxfire is a miracle in education that occurred in the mountains of North Georgia in the mid 1960s.   The efforts of a young English teacher and his high school students became a needful addiction that awakened many to the value of preserving mountain heritage.

Heritage is as precious as life itself.  Without it none of us would be here.

Barbara is the first of many Foxfire students to offer  published early accounts of life-changing experiences that touched many straying teenage minds.

It’s Not My Mountain Anymore is jaunty,  cocky,  funny,  loving and moving. It is a voice of courage.

I wrote this book to share with you a vanished lifestyle I once knew and loved as a child reared in a humble mountain home.  Also I wanted to place a record  into the young hands of our grandson Sterling, that he might know his deep Appalachian roots and occasionally remember the things we cared about, the things that really matter, and the things that moved us.

I’d be honored to share a journey filled with appreciation, love, humor and loss with you. Thank you in advance for your support.

“In the history of Catch the Spirit of Appalachia, Inc.–we have not had an author sell so many books so quickly!   This testifies to the fact that word of mouth has spread about this well-written book which tells it like it is!”   …Amy Ammons Garza, Publisher

I don’t consider myself a writer.  You won’t find one $5.00 word in It’s Not My Mountain Anymore nor will you need a hammer to crack it’s simple message.  It’s just plain talk.

It is my dream to be able to give back to those that gave so much to me by donating a chunk of proceeds to organizations like Foxfire and Catch the Spirit of Appalachia that fan fresh young flames in this generation.  I hope those young students will become as I, an old chunk of coal with deep burning passion for our mountains.”…Barbara Taylor Woodall
